Early, Productive Morning

This morning I did something I have not done since I left my full time job: I logged on to my computer at 7am. I won't lie, since I have been working from home, unless I am meeting a client or working out, I have not been waking up before about 8 am. But today I have calls to make, websites to build and movies to watch. Me and a few girlfriends have decided to take the afternoon off to treat our selves to a movie. I am slightly ashamed to admit what that movie is. :)

Anywho, I am off to make some calls and then get ready for a girly afternoon. Hope you all have a great Thursday.

Finally Friday!

Who else is excited that it is almost the weekend? One thing I have totally been struggling with is the insane amount of distractions that come with working from home. I have two dogs who are 18 weeks and about 2 years old. Some mornings they are all snuggly and taking a nap with them is just more appealing than working. Some mornings they are insane and driving me crazy and I can't focus on work. Either way they are not conducive to a productive work environment, but they are way cuter than your coworker.

This week I have gotten some major headway on my website and I think it will be ready to go live next week. I am working on the paper work I need to get completed today.

In other news Mashable had a great blog post on the rules of using social media. It has a ton of great things to think about. Check it out: http://mashable.com/2010/05/18/rules-social-media-engagment/.

Well, on that note, I am out. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Goals for this week and some rambling....

So, last week started off pretty strong but ended up kind of blah. That was due, in part, to the fact that I was moving last week. Excuses, excuses.
Oh well, on to this week. I am planning on getting my website done this week and having that go live early next week. I also need to get all of my paperwork complete so that I am compliant in terms of taxes and all that happy stuff. Will update more later, I have a cold that is making writing complete sentences VERY challenging. Please excuse my ramblings.

Happy Monday everyone!

A Great Review and Information on Social Media Policies

We are delighted to recommend the “Social Media Policy” Kristin Andrews( of Twigg Marketing) has created for our company. It covers many important new uncharted areas of HR policy and has enabled us to clearly and succinctly state our company policy for all employees to know, understand and abide by whether currently employed or after they have left our employ.

I heartily recommend the use of her services.

Thank you for that recommendation Caryn!
Have YOU thought about how important social media policies are for your company?  Some business owners do not think about how they are being represented by their employees on social media sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn. Getting a social media policy for your company gets you and your employees on the same page in terms of what can and can not be done on social media sites. Let me know if you would like more info!

Monday already?

If only I was as productive all week as I am on Monday mornings. Sunday nights I have quite a bit of anxiety about the upcoming week so I lay in bed and make lists and plans for the upcoming day in my head.   So Monday mornings I accomplish about 234 things that I had planned the night before.  Anxiety breeds productivity for me.

I found a very helpful blog post of how to bring your blog to facebook via NetworkedBlogs on Weblog of scwindt-pr agency. It is just another social media avenue to get your message out to the masses.

My brother found a really cool  site to create web pages on that has a ton of modern templates and easy to use, so I feel like I am going to scrap what I have been working on and make the move over to wix.com. So far I have found it really helpful. I do need to look into if it is SEO friendly.

So webpage making is my plan today. Not my favorite activity, but totally beats brick laying or breaking rocks. Hope everyone has a productive Monday.

This is JUST the beginning

Hello world! As you may have read in my info I am a marketing professional based in San Antonio, Texas looking to strike out on my own. After working with and marketing for small and medium sized companies, I have seen an OVERWHELMING need for social media training and management: I want to help these companies use social media to grow their businesses, connect with their clients and build their brands. You will hear much more on this as you continue to read my blog. I also plan to post the latest news on social media, examples of companies who are using it correctly and maybe a little bit of pop culture thrown in.

Before all of that good stuff, I will be documenting the journey and challenges I face trying to get this business off of the ground! So far I have done a ton of research, fruitlessly worked on my website, had a logo designed by the talented Patty Mascorro, and ordered my business cards:

Obviously I have a lot left to do and I hope this blog will help keep me...accountable in a way. It will force me to take an honest look at what I am doing and see where and how I can work better. Advice, critique and compliments are always welcome. Better get back to it.
